  • I am now officially a "cord cutter"

Two days ago I was driving through a local neighborhood that I had not been in before and I saw this big pile of trash from a block away. I knew I had to stop. People just do not put out piles like this. No hard trash pickup here. When I got closer I saw a small FREE sign and knew I had to stop. I learned a lot from Ben. I saw a few cords and grabbed them. They were attached to several items with transformers or motors inside. Also several pounds of Christmas lights. It took me a few hours to clip off every light and now that wire is worth $1.95 a pound. (instead of a few cents/lb.)

But then there were a couple of dirty crock pots and toasters. I did not want them. I went back to my car and got my wire cutters (that I now always keep in the car) and clipped off the cords.

I live in a left-voting "gentrified Inner City area". People around here hate cord cutters and would rather see things go to landfill than have the cord cut off.

But left voters are liberal and I would think they would not want anything to go into a landfill and recycle everything.

The other day I came upon a "free" pile. The owner was out there and I only wanted the cords so I took the complete items. When I got home I cut the cords and put everything else in the pile to take to me dump site. (nothing useful inside)

I had to look up where you live. Lots of little towns around you. Do you do OK in other areas? I see you are 10KM from Bondi Beach. I visited there many years ago. All I remember about Sidney is the opera house, the zoo and the beach.

        .
I agree, they should be happy but there are some weird attitudes out there (and I'm a lefty).

At the moment we are in our 3rd month of COVID Delta strain lockdown/lock-in with at least another month to go, maybe 2 months (end November). Legally, I can't go out scrapping but can do 1 hour of exercise everyday. I tend to pick things up during my walk or if I'm driving to/from my GF's place 10km away. (we are allowed a 1 person bubble). It's amazing what you find just doing that.

Well as a Queenslander I'm pretty happy with the state of things up here. I still got caught in a lockdown in Brisbane a few weeks back, but at the end of the day I went home 300 km away no problem. I don't like our incumbent Premier, but she seems to be doing the right thing by us. Very hard to make decisions.

I would never vote for Premier Gladys in my life but I thought that she did a good job last year and I gained a new respect for her.
This year she seems to have let the spin-doctors get to her. She contradicts herself, she says things that are totally different to what the Dep't of Health website says, she blatantly lies. It's a shame.
