  • Commercial scrap job need help please

Hi guys. First time poster and scrapper. I did a big job for someone and their payment is 30 tonnes of clean aluminium. Basically brand new out of the packet and most still in its packet. The scrap yard offered me $1.60 kg for it. Do you guys think thats a top price. I have no idea as i just started to learn about scrap. Thanks for the help.

Hi mate - $1.60 for extruded ally looks like a good price in NSW - check out the Scrap Metal Prices thread and a few of us have posted prices from various states over time. Looks like a good deal.

Awesome thanks mate. I went through that thread but some were older and the amounts were a lot less. I thought maybe in quantity i could get better prices. At least now i have the peace of mind to pull the trigger. Thanks heaps lovegoodscrap

                $1.60 is good if:
They take it as-is (you don't have to unwrap it).

Even better if they drop a few bins onsite and come and collect it.

Even more better if they load it into the bins.

Think about how much faffing about you'll need to do for your $48k.

There are 3 dealers down the 'gong. Try them all and see what they will do to "value add" over their basic price.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up getting $1.65 and thats with them providing the bins to the site and me just loading it in. They would have given me $1.75 if i transported it at my own cost. Bins were long and suited perfectly as trucks would have meant i had to cut a lot of the pieces. All up it was about 35 tonnes extruded ally. Also had 10 tonnes of domestic ally from the demolition. They gave me $1.15 with bins provided to the site. For heavy steel i had about 40 tonnes from the demolition and with bins provided i was able to get $220 a tonne.
