  • Dissolving base metal from plated silver

So I started playing around with hcl and ap. I put two equal size hunks of this plated wire basket into jars and added just 35% hcl to one and the hcl and peroxide to the other. The ap jar disolved everything it look like and is very dark orange while the just hcl still has most
of the sample and is green. I understood ap wouldn't disolve the silver, or was the playing so light it just crumbled. And I don't under stand the color differences. I tried to upload a picture but it says the size is to big. Has anyone ever tried this stuff?

Did you use Diggers HCL? It goes orange when you add Peroxide.

It was the stuff from Lowe's. A home improvement store.

Did you check to see if the piece was magnetic?

Yes I did. It is not magnetic even in the slightest
