T'was the night of silence, Come 1:30 am Melbourne time, the silver stackers forum was loading up with prospective buyers of Perth Mints 2nd release of the "God's of Olympus"
Series of high relief 2 oz silver coins. Poseidon. With only 1500 minted and a limit of 1 per customer, it would seem to be an straight forward thing to do, sit up until 2 am and buy one.

Well, wasn't that an experience? it's currently 3:20 am Melbourne time and looking in at the silver stackers forum, there's guys in queue, still waiting to get an order in.
with a 50 minute plus waiting time!

Poseidon is already unavailable if you log onto the website now, that may not mean sold out but seems if those in the queue log off, they won't be getting a poseidon.

I got mine, took about 15 minutes in to get the order paid and submitted, I was in early it seems as when my order went through, by then people were getting 20 minutes wait times.
within another 10 minutes that went up to 40 & then 50 minutes, as I write this there are guys still hanging in there, but many now are being dropped out,
with a message that the item is unavailable, so they wasted a lot of time for nothing.

anyways, 1500 is obviously very low mintage, being the second issue of the series, with Zeus released first, Those that have Zues will definately want Poseidon.
I don't think many of them would of gotten a poseidon so they will be looking.
That means the poseidon will most likely rise in price very quickly, possibly doubling overnight, i'll report back on that.

Here it is, The Gods of Olympus – Poseidon 2014 2oz Silver High Relief Coin from The Perth Mint - Issue price: $179.00

The Perth Mint is pleased to present the second release in the Gods of Olympus series. In ancient Greek mythology, Poseidon was worshipped as the God of the Sea.
Historically, Poseidon was always portrayed as a mature man with a fully-grown beard, and equipped with his best known weapon, the trident, which he used to shake the earth, shatter rocks and create storms, causing devastating earthquakes and tsunamis. His other symbols include a bull, dolphins, horse and fish.
Poseidon was one of six children and the second of three brothers, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, born to Rhea and Cronus, the ruler of the Titans. Having overthrown their father, the three brothers divided the universe between them. Zeus took control of the heavens, Poseidon the sea, and Hades the underworld.
Each Poseidon coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 2oz of 99.9% pure silver.

The coin’s reverse depicts a bearded Poseidon riding the waves on his chariot pulled by two hippocampi, clutching his trident, with dolphins porpoising in the background. The design includes the inscription POSEIDON and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

To capture the depth and detail of the design, each coin is meticulously struck in high relief to a rimless format and features an antique finish which gives the coin an aged effect.
Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date, and the monetary denomination are shown on the coin’s obverse.

No more than 1,500 of the Gods of Olympus – Poseidon 2014 2oz Silver High Relief Coin will be released by The Perth Mint.

The coin is housed in a prestigious round wooden display case, with stunning detail on its lid and packaged in a beautifully illustrated shipper.
Each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

In ancient Greek mythology, Poseidon was worshipped as the God of the Sea. Adept at gathering clouds and creating violent storms, Poseidon was responsible for countless shipwrecks and the drowning of many souls, yet he also held the power to grant a ship a successful voyage, and to save those in danger. He is also often referred to as the ‘earth-shaker’ due to his penchant for causing earthquakes.
After being given the sea to rule over, Poseidon built for himself a spectacular underwater palace on the ocean floor made from coral and gems. He was often depicted riding atop the ocean waves, sometimes on his chariot pulled by sea-horses, also known as hippocampi.
Previous release: Zeus (sold out)
Forthcoming release: Hades

I can't wait to see it in the flesh, I don't have Zeus so haven't decided if I'll seek out a Zeus and go for the set or just flip the Poseidon for a quick profit and get some bullion instead.
1500 mintage probably turned out to be a bit too low considering the design and subject matter, I think 2500 of each coin would of still sold out.

Just a quick update before I submitted this post I checked back to see what's going on still, already the first lot is on eBay, seller has more than 10 available and selling them for AU$462
has sold 3 already! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/161320684822
wow, that's insane, although he has best offer available so they probably got it much cheaper.
